About Us
FIDEC is a nonprofit organization founded in the United States in 2001 by Dr. Daniel Stamboulian, dedicated to preventing and fighting infectious diseases in emerging countries.
The organization’s mission is to advance prevention and public health through education, research advocacy, immunization strategies, and early diagnosis and treatment.
Our work is carried out by physicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals from Latin America, the United States, and Armenia.
Founded in Argentina in 1987 by Dr. Daniel Stamboulian, FUNCEI is the original nonprofit organization dedicated to education and research in infectious diseases, while FIDEC serves as the corresponding U.S. nonprofit organization.
Together, through the expertise of our medical board, both organizations work to transfer knowledge and raise awareness among healthcare professionals and communities on key public health challenges.

Founder’s Story:
Daniel Stamboulian’s journey began with his Armenian parents’ escape from genocide and their eventual settlement in Argentina, where Daniel was born. Shaped by their resilience and compassion, he trained as a pediatrician and later dedicated his career to infectious diseases, guided by the belief that prevention and education save lives.
While working in remote communities, he witnessed children suffering from preventable illnesses—an experience that shaped his conviction that medicine must go beyond treatment and empower communities through knowledge and teamwork. After graduating with honors, he pursued advanced training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Southern California (USC), where he embraced a collaborative, education driven model of care.
Reflecting on that experience, Daniel later said:
“One of the things that most impressed me about the U.S. was how they identify young people’s talents and help them grow. If you ask me what the best thing I’ve done in my life is, I’d say it’s educating healthcare professionals.”
Returning to Argentina, he challenged the status quo by promoting infectology as a discipline that supports all areas of medicine. In 2001, he founded FIDEC in the United States, inspired by the need to create a bridge between Latin America, Armenia, and the U.S. that would foster scientific exchange, training, and collaboration in infectious disease prevention.
At the core of his work is one enduring belief: prevention is an act of humanity, and lasting change begins with education.
